Set in contemporary Iran, A Separation (Jodaeiye Nader az Siminis a compelling drama that unfolds like a detective story – without the detective.  The film has received two 2012 Oscar nominations (best foreign-language film and original screenplay).  It’s won over 40 awards, including the 2012 Golden Globe for best foreign language film.

Simin (Leila Hatami) and Nader (Peyman Moaadi) are getting a divorce,  because she wants to emigrate and he doesn’t want to leave behind his

Alzheimer-suffering father.  When their daughter decides to stay with
Nader, he hires a young woman (Sareh Bayat) to assist in Simin’s
absence.  But he discovers that the new maid has been lying to him.

The film is written and directed by Iran’s Asghar Farhadi, whose film  About Elly won best director prize at the 2009 Berlin Film Festival.

The film is in Persian with English subtitles.
