The Reel Fun Film Festival is poised to present an exciting line-up from February 20 to 26, and among them is CIFF’s 2011 Youth by Youth Award recipient, Sarah Clark, screening Rock, Paper, Scissors for this family-focused event. Clark is a senior at Springbank Community High School and created this, her first animation, as part of her Grade 11 media arts class, a short is about a young boy’s drawings that have come to life.
The Reel Fun Film Festival is also pleased to present, Onion Skin, the story of a high school student who turns heads when he decides to avoid text-messaging a girls in a comedy-turned-romance about the power of letter writing. Considered one of Canada’s ‘up-and-coming filmmakers’, Joseph Procopio’s Alberta premiere is his ninth film, and at only age 17.
“We are delighted at the calibre of films we are screening this year,” gushes Festival Director and Co-Founder, Cathy McKee. “From shorts to features, the talent is fantastic. We are truly going to engage, entertain and educate audiences.”
Out of the line-up of 30 films; seven are Western Canadian premieres; 13 are Canadian firsts including the 2012 Academy Award nominated Best Animated Short,The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore; and four are International premieres. Directors are keen to present their creations at the Reel Fun Film Festival, as the full houses are enthusiastic and the event inspires the next generation of film makers.
