IN THE WAKE by the Downstage Creation Ensemble
A darkly comic tale of a fisherman who sees his livelihood disappearing because of an oceanic dead zone off Canada’s west coast, and a scientist who might just have the solution. Last seen in Calgary at the 2011 High Performance Rodeo and winner of the 2010 Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding New Play, the entire show is played out atop a 3 foot X 6 foot platform that lights up from inside and is accompanied by a live musical score.

RAUNCH by Alice Nelson and Jacqueline Russell
Inspired by renowned feminist author Ariel Levy’s book Female Chauvinist PigsRaunchis a hilarious and provocative dissection of so-called Raunch Culture, the hyper-sexualization that society and media have inflicted on women’s progress.

MARG SZKALUBA (PISSY’S WIFE) by Ron Chambers
Sharon Pollock returns in her Betty Mitchell Award nominated performance, produced by Verb Theatre. Marg Szkaluba (Pissy’s Wife) is a country musical about a self-proclaimed ‘hard woman’ who tells of her abusive marriage and her escape to a surprising new life as a country blues singer.

COUNCIL OF COMMUNITY CONVEYORS conceived by Eric Moschopedis,
Mia Rushton and Sharon Stevens

In this playful but politically-engaged project, the facilitators will train audience members to be community conveyors, at which point they’ll travel to one of Calgary’s communities and register what one neighbour has to say to the next, passing along messages and helping to establish dialogue within a community.

MAGPIE TREASURE TALKS conceived by Col Cseke and Ellen Close
An ensemble of Calgarians who have experienced homelessness will speak about unexpected areas of expertise before entering into dialogue with the hosts and the audience in an event that reveals the depth and intelligence of some of those marginalized most in our city.
