Robot (Kat) Report
I had such an amazing week down in Austin! There were so many highlights and so many rad people. I'm happy to be back home and have been loading up with vitamin C, ginger and ginseng in hopes to prevent the inevitable SXSW cold. Among my highlights were:
- Hanging out with a bunch of awesome people. Holy cow, so many cool folks!
- Seeing DIVA make 12 costume changes (or something like that) then dancing on the bar. Blew my mind.
- Other wicked bands like TRUST, Cousins, Mode Moderne, Gardens & Villa, Doomtree and Tonstarttsbandht.
- Seeing the 2 million bats of Austin's Congress Bridge take to the skies.
- Finding The Cure's Final Romance album at Waterloo records. It's a live recording from Germany, done in 1980 after their first album. So boss
Then, I got home and what should be waiting for me but my Blank City movie! Oh man, such a great documentary. If you haven't seen it yet then do so, it actually just got released a few weeks ago. Doooo it.
This week is going to be crazeeee. M TT Fest is hitting town with three awesome days of music. I'm talking Sun Araw, Damo Suzuki, Dean And Britta, Sonic Boom and DIVA (remember what I said earlier? yeah)!!! Plus a bunch of awesome local bands like The Nancees, Greyscreen, Nathan Godfrey, Yaocave, Extra Happy Ghost, Lab Coast, The You Are Minez and so on and so on. It's going to rock so hard.
In other crazy news, I'm working on a radio series about my hero Alan Turing and the first episode is going to air at 11:30 AM MST on March 20th (today). If you miss it I'll post it online. In case you need a refresher, Turing is basically the father of computer science showing what is computable and what isn't, breaking the enigma code in WWII, working a bit on speech synthesis and developing the turing test for machine intelligence. I love this guy, like, so much.
