SUMMARY:The Free Label to Record Live Album at the King Eddy Using Rolling Stones Mobile Studio\, September 26 & 27
DESCRIPTION:National Music Centre (NMC) is launching the Live from the King Eddy concert series with Toronto’s The Free Label\, Sept. 26 and 27 in Calgary. The band will get the rare opportunity to record a live album at the King Eddy\, using the legendary Rolling Stones Mobile Studio. \n\nPresented in celebration of NMC’s 10th anniversary\, the Live from the King Eddy series will bring 10 acclaimed artists from across Canada to Calgary to record live albums at the Eddy using the famed mobile studio\, starting with The Free Label. \n\n(Calgary\, AB — August 18\, 2026) National Music Centre (NMC) is announcing the launch of Live from the King Eddy\, a new concert series that puts audiences in the room as music history is made. \n  \nDATES: Saturday\, September 26\, 2026 & Sunday\, September 27\, 2026. \nTIME: 8:00 pm \nWHERE: the King Eddy \nEarly Bird: $35. General: $45. \n\nKicking off the series on September 26 and 27\, disco\, funk\, and soul collective The Free Label will take over the King Eddy for a two-night concert experience that will be recorded live off the floor with the Rolling Stones Mobile Recording Studio. Known as the “Sistine Chapel of rock ‘n’ roll\,” the studio on wheels is a treasured part of NMC’s living collection. Used to record albums by some of the biggest names in music\, including The Rolling Stones\, Led Zeppelin\, Fleetwood Mac\, Deep Purple\, Bob Marley\, and Neil Young\, The Free Label will get a once-in-a-lifetime chance to add to its legacy. \nThe Free Label is made up of six multi-instrumentalists and vocalists from Toronto\, melding ‘70s disco\, ‘90s R&B\, and high-energy funk that gets people dancing. The group’s natural chemistry\, technical prowess\, and captivating live performances have made them instant favourites with audiences worldwide. \n“Getting the chance to record with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio is surreal\,” said The Free Label’s Josh Tsakas. “So many records and artists that have inspired us are connected to the studio\, and now we get to add our own chapter to that story. We’ve always fed off the energy of a live crowd\, so having everyone at the King Eddy with us while we capture our songs is going to be really special. We can’t wait to share those two nights with Calgary.” \nThe Live from the King Eddy series aims to recapture the spirit of the multi-day residencies that were common at the King Eddy in its early days\, and give artists from across Canada access to the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio\, one of the most coveted pieces of National Music Centre’s living collection. The series also gives audiences an opportunity to be a part of the recording\, adding to the vibe of the room and the energy of the recording as it unfolds. \nThe series builds on the success of past sessions with Corb Lund\, as well as The Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer\, whose blistering live album\, Live at the King Eddy\, earned the blues duo a 2023 JUNO Award nomination\, and a 2023 Western Canadian Music Award win for Blues Artist of the Year. \n“National Music Centre is home to an extraordinary collection of musical heritage\, and we believe that some of the instruments and recording equipment in the collection must be made available so that these treasures can continue to tell stories and capture new Canadian music\,” said Andrew Mosker\, President and CEO of National Music Centre. “Live from the King Eddy brings that philosophy to life by putting the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio back to work in one of Canada’s most storied live music venues. It also gives artists the rare opportunity to create with a legendary piece of music history\, while continuing to preserve the collection and creating a unique program for audiences\, where they can experience Canadian artists collaborating with NMC and the King Eddy together.” \n\nPresented in celebration of NMC’s 10th anniversary\, the Live from the King Eddy series will bring 10 acclaimed artists from across Canada to Calgary to record live albums at the Eddy using the famed mobile studio. Along with The Free Label\, the series will feature Montreal rockers The Damn Truth and Quebec singer-songwriter Sara Dufour\, with more Canadian artists to be announced soon. \n  \nTickets for The Free Label’s Live from the King Eddy performances on September 26 and 27 are available at kingeddy.ca/whats-on. \nAbout National Music Centre | Centre National de Musique\nNational Music Centre (NMC) is a registered charity dedicated to amplifying the love\, sharing\, and understanding of music in Canada. As a cornerstone of the National Music Centre (NMC)\, the rich civic and musical history of the King Eddy is the primary reason that NMC chose to construct its new building at this location. The King Edward Hotel was one of the first hotels built in Calgary along 9 Avenue between 1905-1907. Over the years\, it’s been a home and destination for travellers\, settlers\, musicians\, music fans\, and citizens from all walks of life. From the early 1980s until it closed in 2003\, the “Eddy” had a respected local\, national\, and international reputation for legendary live music and was affectionately known as “Calgary’s Home of the Blues.” Restored brick by brick to its original glory by the National Music Centre\, the reimagined King Eddy reopened in 2018\, marking a new chapter in its storied legacy. It has received numerous national music industry awards and nominations in that time\, and has been repeatedly recognized as one of Calgary’s best live music venues. To put it more complexly – which is to say accurately – she’s also a multi-instrumentalist\, producer\, concert curator\, and co-producer of her last seven music videos. Her new album is called Little Place\, and it’s a collection of nine songs that clearly displays her desire to craft honest\, thoughtfully constructed pop songs with a compelling and original sonic stamp. Along with her bandmates – drummer/producer Chris Dadge (Chad Van Gaalen\, Alvvays)\, and multi-instrumentalists Brock Geiger (solo) and Nate Waters (Eye of Newt) – she has come up with her most sharply rendered and engaging album to date. \nhttps://www.samanthasavagesmith.ca\nhttps://www.instagram.com/samsavsmith\nhttps://samanthasavagesmith.bandcamp.com \nCassia Hardy\nAs the singer/guitarist for the rock band Wares\, Cassia Hardy has performed at festivals and clubs from Dawson City to Charlottetown. Her music is voltage controlled\, dreamy and deliberate\, not raw but worked to a fine point. Self-described as “loud-ish\,” Hardy’s anthems echo across Treaty 6 with deliberate dreaminess and folky verve. – www.sledisland.com \nhttps://cassiahardy.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/cassia.hardy \nAva Wild\nA young female artist from Saskatchewan\, Canada. Guided by her very creative vision\, she creates beautiful melodies with her soft\, yet powerful voice. She is able to invent her own smooth sound while taking inspiration from soul jazz and indie pop genres. – www.everythingisnoise.net \nhttps://www.instagram.com/avaiswild \nIn the spirit of reconciliation\, we acknowledge that we live\, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika\, Kainai\, Piikani)\, the Tsuut’ina First Nation\, the Iyarhe Nakoda (including Chiniki\, Bearspaw\, and Goodstoney First Nations)\, the Battle River Territory of the Métis Nation of Alberta Districts 5 & 6\, and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta. \nNO JERK POLICY ALWAYS IN EFFECT!!

DESCRIPTION:Where: Palomino Smokehouse and Social Club\n109 7 Avenue S.W Calgary\nhttp://thepalomino.ca/\n18+ with government issued identification\nWhen: Friday October 16\, 2026\nDoors: 8:00pm / Action 8:30pm\nAdmission: $20.00 advance at www.showpass.com\nNO JERK POLICY ALWAYS IN EFFECT!! \nStatus/Non-Status (London\, ON)\nWith a name that demands attention\, Status/Non-Status is a band that boldly explores Indigenous identity\, politics\, and ancestry. Their music blends folk rock\, psychedelia\, post-rock\, and grunge into powerful soundscapes that resonate with emotional depth and cultural significance. Adam Sturgeon—lead singer and Anishinaabe community worker—is the driving force behind Status/Non-Status. Defined as “non-status” by the Canadian government\, Sturgeon’s identity is rooted in the complex history of his family. His grandfather enfranchised to join the Armed Forces and become a Canadian citizen\, creating a legacy that Sturgeon confronts in his music and work. His artistic journey is deeply intertwined with raising awareness about the impact of colonization while striving to reconnect with his Anishinaabe/Potawatomi roots and community. Committed to analyzing and questioning colonial systems of oppression\, his work reflects the struggles of his people and offers a path toward healing. \nhttps://www.statusnonstatus.com\nhttps://statusnonstatus.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/statusnonstatus \nBy Divine Right (Toronto\, ON)\nBy Divine Right features the psych-infused art-pop songwriting of chilean born singer / guitarist José Contreras. In the early days By Divine Right’s ever evolving line-up\, counting amongst some of its members Feist\, Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene) and Brian Bordchert (Holy Fuck)\, made it one of Canada’s first indie rock collectives. To date Divine Right has been recognized with Polaris Prize and Juno nominations\, but most notably the adoration of admiring music fans and the CanRock music elite alike. – www.fortunestellarrecords.com \nhttps://bydivineright.ca\nhttps://bydivineright.bandcamp.com/\nhttps://www.instagram.com/bydivineright \nSelf Cut Bangs\nTwo weddings and a baby. Just a few of the major life events to account for the gap between Self-Cut Bangs’ sophomore album and their latest\, Growth Spurts\, a true family affair. Now featuring two married couples\, they self-describe as “like Fleetwood Mac\, but replacing the drama and drugs with more guitar solos.” A retro future rock & roll statement powered by a cotton candy jet engine. \nhttps://selfcutbangs.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/self_cut_bangs \nsadbirthdays\nThriftscore Dream Pop\nhttps://thesadbirthdays.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/sadbirthdays \nIn the spirit of reconciliation\, we acknowledge that we live\, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika\, Kainai\, Piikani)\, the Tsuut’ina First Nation\, the Iyarhe Nakoda (including Chiniki\, Bearspaw\, and Goodstoney First Nations)\, the Battle River Territory of the Métis Nation of Alberta Districts 5 & 6\, and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta. \nNO JERK POLICY ALWAYS IN EFFECT!
