SUMMARY:GENUS 394WZ
DESCRIPTION:Genus 394Wz is a visually striking\, poetic sci-fi performance blending puppetry and film. \nGuided by a mysterious narrator who exists outside of time\, the work travels from the primordial past to a distant future\, tracing humanity’s evolving relationship with an imagined Genus — by turns food source\, curiosity\, spectacle\, and ultimately asking how power\, empathy\, and ethical responsibility shape humanity’s treatment of “others”. \nAbstract\, symbolic\, and emotionally resonant\, this twelve-act journey invites audiences to reflect on power\, exploitation\, interdependence\, and our ethical relationship with the non-human world. Exploring themes of dominion\, exploitation\, worship\, curiosity\, technological escalation\, and moral ambiguity. In the final act\, as the species awakens to its own freedom\, it’s left with a haunting question: after being everything from food to idol to genetic substrate\, what identity remains? \nDate: one show only – March 12th\, 2026\nTime: 7:00pm\, doors open at 6:30pm\nVenue: The Confluence Historical Site – Burnswest Theatre\nTickets: $20 per person\, with $5/$10/$15 Pay What You Can options

His duets album released with Dana Wylie The Day Had To Come topped Bandcamp’s ‘Best Country Music of 2024’ list. His upcoming solo album Songs From the Goodbye Garden features string arrangements from two-time Grammy-nominee Drew Jurecka and offers an eclectic range of styles\, celebrating Sammy’s love for 1960s pop\, contemporary indie rock and dreamy chamber folk. He has been featured at festivals like the Calgary and Edmonton Folk Music Festivals and has shared stages with the likes of Frazey Ford\, Boy Golden and Mariel Buckley. SUMMARY:A Tribute to Horace Silver
DESCRIPTION:The Jazz Nebula society presents A Tribute to Horace Silver\, Saturday\, March 14\, 2026\, 2:00 p.m. at Scarboro United Church\, 134 Scarboro Ave SW\, featuring: Johnny Summers\, trumpet; John Reid\, saxophones and flute; Jon Day\, grand piano; John Gray\, string bass; Ed Batley\, drums. Tickets are $40 general admission\, $35 for Jazz Nebula and CALL members\, $10 students\, and are available at Eventbrite.ca. \nThere will be a pre-show chat presentation on Horace Silver at 1:30 p.m. given by Jazz Nebula Artistic and General Director\, John Reid. \nHorace Ward Martin Tavares Silver (September 2\, 1928 – June 18\, 2014) was an American jazz pianist\, composer\, and arranger\, particularly in the Hard Bop style that he helped pioneer in the 1950s. \nSilver got his break on when his trio was recruited by Stan Getz in 1950. Silver soon moved to New York City\, where he developed a reputation as a composer and for his bluesy playing. It was his work with the Jazz Messengers\, co-led by Art Blakey\, that brought both his writing and playing most attention. \nAfter leaving Blakey in 1956\, Silver formed his own quintet\, with what became the standard small group line-up of tenor saxophone\, trumpet\, piano\, bass\, and drums. Their public performances and frequent recordings for Blue Note Records increased Silver’s popularity\, even through changes of personnel. His most successful album was Song for My Father\, made with two iterations of the quintet in 1963 and 1964. \nSilver was among the most influential jazz musicians of his lifetime. Grove Music Online describes his legacy as at least fourfold: \n\nAs a pioneer of hard bop;\nAs a user of what became the archetypal quintet instrumentation of tenor saxophone\, trumpet\, piano\, bass\, and drums;\nAs a developer of young musicians who went on to become important players and bandleaders;\nFor his skill as a composer and arranger.\n\nHis compositions are one of his great legacies and those are what will be celebrated in this concert: 14 of Silver’s songs will be performed including: “Doodlin’\,” “Song for My Father\,” “The Preacher\,” “Nica’s Dream\,” “The Hardbop Grandpop\,” and “Sister Sadie” among others. \nAn aspect of Canadian music will be included as well. \nHis innovative incorporation of gospel and blues sounds into jazz compositions took place while they were also being added to rock ‘n’ roll and R&B pieces. His compositions and arrangements were also designed to make Silver’s typical line-up sound larger than a quintet. \nFor more information contact: https://www.jazzyyc.com/jazz-events/jazz-nebula-2025/

SUMMARY:MRG Live presents Bob Sumner
DESCRIPTION:MRG Live presents Bob Sumner \nWhere: Palomino Smokehouse and Social Club\n109 7 Avenue S.W Calgary\nhttp://thepalomino.ca/\n18+ with government issued identification\nWhen: Saturday March 21\, 2026\nDoors: 8:00pm / Music 9:00pm\nAdmission: $20.00 advance at www.admitone.com\nNO JERK POLICY ALWAYS IN EFFECT!! \nBob Summer\nSinger-songwriter Bob Sumner cites the musically progressive sensibilities of his heroes when talking about the spirit of his new album\, Some Place to Rest Easy\, out now via Fluff & Gravy (worldwide) and North Country Collective (Canada). “They were always creating something new\, something different\,” he says of idols like George Jones\, Willie Nelson\, and Waylon Jennings. With that ideology in mind\, Sumner set about creating an album that takes as much inspiration from the audio production of Randy Travis as it does the lyrical soul of Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker—a melding of eras\, sounds\, concepts\, and stylings that’s informed by the past\, but never bound by it. \nWith Some Place to Rest Easy\, Sumner picks up the tempo compared to his previous releases\, balancing the stirring lyrical depth fans have come to expect with a more buoyant\, lively feel. “It felt appropriate to give the music itself some joy\,” says the man who’s made a career out of tapping into difficult-to-touch-on\, real-life stuff in a relatable\, palatable manner. In the end\, that’s what Sumner’s music has always been about—more than a single sound\, influence\, instrumental\, or clever line. “I always want people to feel something\,” Sumner explains. “If I heard that this album helped somebody that was feeling down\, even just by feeling some other emotion for a little while\, that’s the number one thing for me. \nhttps://bobsumnermusic.com\nhttps://bobsumner.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/brotherbobsumner \nFor more information\, visit: https://thepalomino.ca/facebook-event/mrg-live-presents-bob-sumner/

SUMMARY:Mike Plume
DESCRIPTION:Storyteller Mike Plume makes his way back to the prairies after a year-long absence from the stage\, stopping at the legendary King Eddy on March 21. \nEvent Details:\nDate: March 21\, 2026 \nTime: 8:30 pm \nPrice: $30 in advance or $35 at the door \nMore about Mike Plume: \nOnce the dogged road warrior\, travelling from coast to coast\, overseas\, and across borders\, Mike has stepped back to take more time to analyze his place in the music industry. \n“The future ain’t what it used to be\, and every couple of years or so\, I think\, ‘Welp\, that’s it. Cheque\, please! I manage to convince myself that I won’t ever write\, record\, or tour again. But in the back of my mind\, the urge to see the sunrise on a stretch of highway I’ve never been on before is too strong to ignore. ‘Every now and then\, it seems\, the road is in my dreams. Chasing yonder star with a Lonesome Guitar…’ Truer words I’ve never written\,” says Mike. \nMike Plume is pure Canadiana. We are united by his lyrics; they are the ultimate IYKYK for Canadians: \n\n“…Me and my wife and kids\, we all sing along\, driving around Moncton town\, singing the Hockey Song…” (So Long\, Stompin’ Tom)\n“…Rolling north on 63\, and pulling into McMurray\, and Easterners are all you see…” (Coming Home Again (Hey Hey\, What D’ya Say))\n“…Lost a wheel in Ontario\, and didn’t know until it passed us by\, and on the Trans Canada highway\, a five-point turn ain’t something one should try…” (Me and Ern)\n“…It said ‘Wild Rose Country’\, it brought me back home and suddenly\, I just needed to be back ‘neath that Prairie sky…” (Red & White Blues)\nand of course\, almost every line of the second Canadian anthem\, including: “…No matter where you go in this rugged land\, there’s one thing we all understand: Every woman\, every child\, and man – 8:30 Newfoundland…” (8:30 Newfoundland (This is Our Home))\n\nWill this be another upswing of recording and touring? Or is this just a March winter tour through the Canadian Prairies to remind himself why musicians really shouldn’t tour through the Canadian Prairies for a March winter tour? \nOnly time will tell.

SUMMARY:Josh Dillon
DESCRIPTION:Outlaw country artist Josh Dillon hits the legendary King Eddy stage on March 26. \nEvent Details:\nDate: March 26\, 2026 \nTime: 7:30 pm \nPrice: $10 cover \nAbout Josh Dillon: \nJosh Dillon is an Alberta-based country artist and a recent Country Music Alberta Roots Artist of the Year nominee\, known for bringing gravel\, grit\, and raw storytelling to the stage. Blending barstool confessions with widescreen Western imagery\, Josh’s music reflects a rebellious spirit rooted in traditional Western values and unapologetic authenticity. \nInfluenced by the songwriting of Eric Church\, the voice of Chris Stapleton\, the musicianship of John Mayer\, Josh Dillon delivers a sound that is both classic and commanding. \nJosh’s most recent releases\, “Texas\,” “Tobacco\,” and “God Bless Country Girls\,” capture the grit and spirit of modern country storytelling — blending outlaw attitude\, blue-collar honesty\, and the kind of hook-driven anthems that feel right at home in a honky-tonk or around a late-night campfire. \nBuilding a reputation as a compelling live performer\, he has appeared on stages across North America including Ranchman’s Cookhouse (Calgary)\, Twin Cities Saloon (Longview)\, Thirsty Armadillo (Fort Worth) and the Calgary Stampede’s Cowboys Music Festival\, performing for audiences of several thousand. \nJosh Dillon is an artist who doesn’t chase trends — he tells stories that live in your soul.
