SUMMARY:CJSW x The Establishment Film Night - Goddess Of Slide
DESCRIPTION:We’re proud to partner with Calgary’s iconic campus radio station CJSW for another year\, highlighting films and stories that matter to our community. \nJune 10\, 2026 @ 7pm \nScreening ‘Goddess of Slide: The Forgotten Story of Ellen McIlwaine’ \nHosted by Ben Goodman of ‘What’s Your Niche?’ on CJSW \nThe Establishment Brewing Company \nFree Entry \nGoddess of Slide: The Forgotten Story of Ellen McIlwaine is a feature documentary about the legendary—and largely forgotten—long-term Calgarian singer and musician who fought for her right to play the slide guitar\, a male-dominated instrument in a male-dominated world. She gained notoriety in the 1960s\, playing with Jimi Hendrix in Greenwich Village\, touring with Johnny Winter and Taj Mahal\, being dubbed “rock’s foremost female guitarist” and “a musical genre unto herself by the likes of the Washington Post. After moving to Calgary in the early 90s she still performed\, but lived a relatively quiet life driving a school bus for an all-girls charter school. The film is an intimate look at a pioneer performer whose road trip to stardom and long career deserves a rightful place in music history.

SUMMARY:THE STAMPEDERS....One More Time
DESCRIPTION:Where: Jack Singer Concert Hall\nWhen: June 11\, 2026 – 7:30PM \n\nThey’re on their way\, to the city lights’ … and\, THE predominant Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll band of the 1970s – The Stampeders – are bringing along all their classic hits: Wild Eyes\, Carry Me\, Oh My Lady\, Devil You\, Ramona\, Minstrel Gypsy\, Hit the Road Jack and\, of course\, the quintessential Canadian – and Hall of Fame – song\, Sweet City Woman! A veritable soundtrack to a whole generation that will ‘carry you home’…maybe not to Birmingham … but back to a time of tie-dyed  t-shirts and elevator shoes\, 15¢ coffee and homemade apple pie\, dating and dreaming…By the time The Stampeders get to the first chorus of the first song\, everyone will be singing along. \nNo seventies group represented Canada’s musical identity to the world like The Stampeders. A quick look at Canada’s music scene from 1971 until 1976 confirms The Stampeders were truly the country’s international musical ambassadors\, touring more extensively in Canada and overseas than any other Canadian group during that time. In 1977 the trio: Rich Dodson (lead guitar)\, Kim Berly (drums) and Ronnie King (bass) parted company but reunited\, fittingly at the Calgary Stampede\, 15 years later in 1992. Since then they’ve been recognized by SOCAN for their Lifetime Achievement\, been inducted into the SOCAN Songwriters Hall of Fame on five occasions and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame for their 1971 seminal hit Sweet City Woman. \nIn March 2024\, just before the Ontario leg of this tour\, Ronnie King passed away. In the final days\, while in palliative care\, he insisted that his band mates carry on. Dave Chobot\, renowned bassist and long time friend of the band\, who was already scheduled to be on the tour to sit in for Ronnie as needed\, was the obvious choice. Still\, Ronnie  remains a presence at every show\, as Rich and Kim share stories from 50+ years on the road and pay tribute with a retrospective video. \nThe enduring musical legacy of The Stampeders … One More Time… ‘better catch a noon train\, better get there for a rock ‘n’ rolling good time!

SUMMARY:Palehound Gus Englehorn Jo Passed Brock Geiger
DESCRIPTION:Palehound \nThis musical brainchild of El Kempner — who’s recently shared stages with the likes of Big Thief and boygenius — turns anxious confessionals and jagged guitar lines into indie rock songs that hit like serrated diary entries. Palehound’s devastating-yet-triumphant stage presence can be previewed on their fifth album\, the 2024 release Live at First Congregational Church – a solo performance recorded while on tour with Adrianne Lenker. That said\, you can expect the thunderous full band at Sled Island. \nGus Englehorn \nA former pro snowboarder reborn as a nomadic psych-pop prophet\, Gus Englehorn has lived a rollercoaster life that reads like one of the fantastical fables that fill his songbook. His third album\, 2026’s The Hornbook\, magically transmutes the entire history of 20th century rock and roll into an alien transmission from the future. \njo passed \nJo Hirabayashi – the singer\, songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, and producer behind Canadian indie rock project jo passed – is very much alive\, even though his latest album\, Away\, took eight years to come out. Released this past January\, his sophomore LP is well worth the wait\, with 11 air-tight indie jams that are begging to be played live. \nBrock Geiger\n\nWith his debut LP Some Nights\, Brock Geiger takes a bold step out from the shadows of the sideman role\, shining a spotlight on his refined chameleon-like songcraft and indie rock sensibilities. The record has garnered attention from NPR and Rolling Stone and serves as a perfectly distilled introduction to the mind of a Calgary indie-pop auteur. \n\n\nTickets $30.

Typically a four-piece\, this stripped-down duo features Nancy Laberge and Pip Hazell\, bringing the music back to its roots\, storytelling\, connection\, laughter\, and a sound that feels both intimate and powerful; the kind of show where you’ll laugh\, reflect\, and quietly think\, “yeah… I’ve been there.” \nAbout Ron McNeill: \nRon McNeill’s musical roots run deep. Born into a large musical family on the east coast of Canada\, picking up an instrument and jamming with the family band was second nature. As a songwriter\, McNeill has had over 90 cuts\, with songs charting in Canada\, France\, Australia\, South Africa and the USA. McNeill has achieved international success co-writing\, producing and singing\, the theme song for “The Love Of The Children”\, documentary. The Film won the coveted Angel Award at the 2013 Monaco International Film Festival. \nMcNeill is the two-time winner of Ole publishing’s songwriting competition\, “Hitsville\,” at the Canadian Country Music Awards. McNeill’s debut album\, Waiting On The Day\, reflects a lifetime of experiences\, and for the first time\, McNeill is able to tell his stories as both an artist and a songwriter. McNeill’s raw\, heartfelt delivery takes listeners on a journey of past struggles and hardship to redemption and enlightenment. His vocals resonate outlaw country with powerful lyrics and mainstream hooks. Ron McNeill is a proud supporter of ‘For The Love Of The Children Society.’

SUMMARY:Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet: A Tribute to Lionel Hampton
DESCRIPTION:Born into New Orleans’ first family of jazz\, Jason Marsalis – youngest son of the late pianist-educator Ellis Marsalis Jr. and brother to Wynton\, Branford\, and Delfeayo – has carved his own unmistakable path as both a virtuosic drummer and one of today’s most imaginative voices on the vibraphone. \nMarsalis launched his career behind the drum kit\, and by his late teens he was touring the world with Marcus Roberts\, digging deeply into mainstream jazz\, fusion\, Brazilian influences\, and the full spectrum of New Orleans traditions. His sideman credits read like a modern jazz honour roll: Joe Henderson\, Lionel Hampton\, Jon Batiste\, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra\, among others. He has also served as a Jazz Ambassador for the U.S. State Department. \nIn the early 2000s\, Marsalis shifted his creative focus to the vibraphone – a move that has since positioned him as one of the instrument’s essential contemporary innovators. Through his Vibes Quartet and numerous collaborations\, he has pushed the American vibraphone lineage forward with wit\, clarity\, and a deep sense of swing. In 2011\, he became the youngest-ever recipient of the NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship when the Marsalis family was honoured at the White House and the Kennedy Center. His 2013 album In a World of Mallets topped the CMJ radio charts at Number 1. \nFor this special concert – the Jason Marsalis Quartet offers a vibrant\, forward-looking celebration of Lionel Hampton\, created with the blessing of the Lionel Hampton Estate. \nMarsalis approaches Hampton’s repertoire not as archival material but as living\, breathing music: joyful\, hard-swinging\, and fully alive in the present. Expect ringing vibes\, deep grooves\, and the kind of electric stage energy that defined Hampton’s legacy – channelled through Jason Marsalis’s own blend of humility\, fire\, and unmistakable New Orleans spirit. \n\n Wednesday\, Jun 24th\, 2026\n 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM \nGeneral Admission – $49.99\nYouth – $19.99\n\nBand members\nJason Marsalis – vibrapphone\nChris Tauchner – piano\nJeff Gammon – bass\nNate Chiang – drums

SUMMARY:Sound Atlas Festival
DESCRIPTION:Influence is a resonance— sometimes audible\, sometimes ghostlike—passing between bodies\, disciplines\, and ideas. In these realms\, sound is a coalescence of past and present affected by who listens\, who remembers\, and who responds. \nThis season’s Sound Atlas Festival gathers sound as a living geography—charted not by borders\, but by forces that shape how music is imagined\, made\, and shared. We are thrilled to present season IV Realms of Influence\, with our ears fixed on the currents that move through contemporary creation: lineage and rupture\, place and displacement\, technology and touch. Across three days\, the festival becomes a meeting ground where composers\, performers\, and listeners step into overlapping worlds\, each shaped by distinct gravitational pulls and soundscapes rooted in modern composition\, sound design\, and inspiring performances of chamber music. \nWith this year’s featured composer\, Kevin Day\, the artist lineup reflects influence not as hierarchy\, but as conversation. Established voices share space with emerging ones; acoustic ritual collides with digital speculation; local histories resonate alongside global idioms. Some works trace their power back to mentors\, and traditions\, while others are shaped by machines\, networks\, and the altered acoustics of modern life. \nThe Sound Atlas New Music Festival invites audiences to wander through these zones of exchange\, where music reveals the invisible forces acting upon it—and upon us. Here\, influence is not something we escape\, but something we inhabit\, reshape\, and send forward\, carrying its echoes into new terrain. \nJoin us June 26-28 2026 at Contemporary Calgary for Realms of Influence.
