SUMMARY:Sydney Mae with Backyard Betties (duo) and Ron McNeill
DESCRIPTION:Americana artist Sydney Mae joins forces with folk group the Backyard Betties (duo) and roots-country artist Ron McNeill at the legendary King Eddy on June 18. \nEvent Details:\nDate: June 18\, 2026 \nTime: 7:30 pm \nPrice: $20 \nAbout Sydney Mae: \nSydney Mae is an award-winning Americana/Alt Country/Roots recording & performing artist whose voice has the rare power to stop a room in its tracks. Currently based in Toronto\, she has been recognized internationally for her gift of superior storytelling & silence-commanding performance. \nHer debut single\, “Feet First\,” soared to #1 on Stingray Music’s Pop Adult channel\, has earned 500\,000+ streams\, and was featured twice on Netflix’s Love Is Blind (Ep 403; Ep. 813). \nAfter making strides in Nashville performing at the iconic Bluebird Café in a Songwriter’s Circle\, opening for Travis Meadows at 3rd & Lindslay\, headlining Calgary’s ‘Country Thunder\,’ opening for Miranda Lambert at Big Valley Jamboree\, and many more\, Mae’s next and most powerful chapter is just around the corner with new music brewing. \nAbout the Backyard Betties (duo): \nThe Backyard Betties are a Calgary-based folk/Americana band known for honest songs\, rich harmonies\, and engaging live shows. Typically a four-piece\, this stripped-down duo features Nancy Laberge and Pip Hazell\, bringing the music back to its roots\, storytelling\, connection\, laughter\, and a sound that feels both intimate and powerful; the kind of show where you’ll laugh\, reflect\, and quietly think\, “yeah… I’ve been there.” \nAbout Ron McNeill: \nRon McNeill’s musical roots run deep. Born into a large musical family on the east coast of Canada\, picking up an instrument and jamming with the family band was second nature. Surrounded by gospel\, classic country\, and old-time rock and roll\, McNeill’s writing came to reflect these early influences. As a songwriter\, McNeill has had over 90 cuts\, with songs charting in Canada\, France\, Australia\, South Africa and the USA. McNeill has achieved international success co-writing\, producing and singing\, the theme song for “The Love Of The Children”\, documentary. The Film won the coveted Angel Award at the 2013 Monaco International Film Festival. \nMcNeill is the two-time winner of Ole publishing’s songwriting competition\, “Hitsville\,” at the Canadian Country Music Awards. He was also signed as a songwriter for the former Lake Land Publishing\, based In Nashville Tennessee. McNeill’s debut album\, Waiting On The Day\, reflects a lifetime of experiences\, and for the first time\, McNeill is able to tell his stories as both an artist and a songwriter. McNeill’s raw\, heartfelt delivery takes listeners on a journey of past struggles and hardship to redemption and enlightenment. His vocals resonate outlaw country with powerful lyrics and mainstream hooks. Ron McNeill is a proud supporter of ‘For The Love Of The Children Society.’

SUMMARY:Palehound Gus Englehorn Jo Passed Brock Geiger
DESCRIPTION:Palehound \nThis musical brainchild of El Kempner — who’s recently shared stages with the likes of Big Thief and boygenius — turns anxious confessionals and jagged guitar lines into indie rock songs that hit like serrated diary entries. Palehound’s devastating-yet-triumphant stage presence can be previewed on their fifth album\, the 2024 release Live at First Congregational Church – a solo performance recorded while on tour with Adrianne Lenker. That said\, you can expect the thunderous full band at Sled Island. \nGus Englehorn \nA former pro snowboarder reborn as a nomadic psych-pop prophet\, Gus Englehorn has lived a rollercoaster life that reads like one of the fantastical fables that fill his songbook. His third album\, 2026’s The Hornbook\, magically transmutes the entire history of 20th century rock and roll into an alien transmission from the future. \njo passed \nJo Hirabayashi – the singer\, songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, and producer behind Canadian indie rock project jo passed – is very much alive\, even though his latest album\, Away\, took eight years to come out. Released this past January\, his sophomore LP is well worth the wait\, with 11 air-tight indie jams that are begging to be played live. \nBrock Geiger\n\nWith his debut LP Some Nights\, Brock Geiger takes a bold step out from the shadows of the sideman role\, shining a spotlight on his refined chameleon-like songcraft and indie rock sensibilities. The record has garnered attention from NPR and Rolling Stone and serves as a perfectly distilled introduction to the mind of a Calgary indie-pop auteur. \n\n\nTickets $30.

SUMMARY:THE STAMPEDERS....One More Time
DESCRIPTION:Where: Jack Singer Concert Hall\nWhen: June 11\, 2026 – 7:30PM \n\nThey’re on their way\, to the city lights’ … and\, THE predominant Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll band of the 1970s – The Stampeders – are bringing along all their classic hits: Wild Eyes\, Carry Me\, Oh My Lady\, Devil You\, Ramona\, Minstrel Gypsy\, Hit the Road Jack and\, of course\, the quintessential Canadian – and Hall of Fame – song\, Sweet City Woman! A veritable soundtrack to a whole generation that will ‘carry you home’…maybe not to Birmingham … but back to a time of tie-dyed  t-shirts and elevator shoes\, 15¢ coffee and homemade apple pie\, dating and dreaming…By the time The Stampeders get to the first chorus of the first song\, everyone will be singing along. \nNo seventies group represented Canada’s musical identity to the world like The Stampeders. A quick look at Canada’s music scene from 1971 until 1976 confirms The Stampeders were truly the country’s international musical ambassadors\, touring more extensively in Canada and overseas than any other Canadian group during that time. In 1977 the trio: Rich Dodson (lead guitar)\, Kim Berly (drums) and Ronnie King (bass) parted company but reunited\, fittingly at the Calgary Stampede\, 15 years later in 1992. Since then they’ve been recognized by SOCAN for their Lifetime Achievement\, been inducted into the SOCAN Songwriters Hall of Fame on five occasions and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame for their 1971 seminal hit Sweet City Woman. \nIn March 2024\, just before the Ontario leg of this tour\, Ronnie King passed away. In the final days\, while in palliative care\, he insisted that his band mates carry on. Dave Chobot\, renowned bassist and long time friend of the band\, who was already scheduled to be on the tour to sit in for Ronnie as needed\, was the obvious choice. Still\, Ronnie  remains a presence at every show\, as Rich and Kim share stories from 50+ years on the road and pay tribute with a retrospective video. \nThe enduring musical legacy of The Stampeders … One More Time… ‘better catch a noon train\, better get there for a rock ‘n’ rolling good time!

SUMMARY:without SHAPE without FORM: JOURNEY OF THE MIND
DESCRIPTION:Exhibit: without SHAPE without FORM’s JOURNEY OF THE MIND \nJune 11—21\, 2026 \nThis exhibition is FREE and OPEN TO ALL. \nContamporary Calgary: #701 11th Street SW\, Calgary\, AB\, T2P 2C4 \nWe live in challenging times. Constantly connected through digital media\, yet often feeling isolated\, many experience pressure\, anxiety and uncertainty. The lasting impact of recent global crises\, alongside concerns about climate change and social injustice\, has intensified questions around mental wellbeing and collective responsibility. \nJOURNEY OF THE MIND\, an exhibition by without SHAPE without FORM\, draws directly on the writings of the Sikh teachers\, which offer practical guidance and clear insight into the nature of the mind – how it wanders\, what obstructs it\, and how it can return to clarity. In Sikhi\, the mind is both the source of suffering and the gateway to freedom. Through focused practice (Simran)\, selfless service (Seva) and the support of community (Sangat)\, Sikh philosophy offers a path toward inner steadiness and purposeful living. \nThe exhibition explores these principles through contemporary figurative and abstract works by artists from diverse cultural backgrounds alongside short films. It reflects on the internal struggles we face – the pull of fear\, ego and distraction – and proposes focused practice\, community and selfless service as foundations for clarity and peace. \nTo date\, JOURNEY OF THE MIND has toured five UK cities and was most recently shown at the Queens Museum in New York\, marking its first presentation in North America. \nJOURNEY OF THE MIND is presented in partnership with Contemporary Calgary.

SUMMARY:Bob Log III with Bug Swallow\, Bog Bodies and guest selector Alley-oop
DESCRIPTION:Bob Log III with Bug Swallow\, Bog Bodies and guest selector Alley-oop \nWhere: Palomino Smokehouse and Social Club\n109 7 Avenue S.W Calgary\nhttp://thepalomino.ca/\n18+ with government issued identification\nWhen: Wednesday June 10\, 2026\nDoors: 7:00pm / Action 8:00pm\nAdmission: $20.00 advance at www.showpass.com\nNO JERK POLICY ALWAYS IN EFFECT!! \nBob Log III\nSo when you see a man in a jumpsuit and full-face helmet rigged up with a telephone receiver come barreling down the honky-tonk stairs in a lifeboat while beating away on a hollow-body guitar\, don’t get out of the way. Jump right in there with him. And as long as you live\, you’ll never forget what he taught you. – Taipei Times \nA man in a human cannonball suit soon appeared from a side door\, his head completely obscured by a tinted black helmet\, its front welded into a telephone which seemed to wirelessly amplify his voice to the audience. Bob Log III launched into a mind-blowing set\, finger-picking his beaten-up black guitar for a sound of steel string blues and heavy rock n’ roll. The sound was reminiscent of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion if it had to be categorised\, but his music would be better described as Jerry Lee Lewis crossed with a little of Tom Waits’ heavy industrial sounds. – yorkpress.co.uk \nHis guitar growls like a rabies-infested mutt\, straight from the backyard of an Alabama whorehouse. The expletives he squawks are absolutely unintelligible\, at least while the groan of his six stringed demon viciously dominates the aural realm. When the blanket of perfectly distorted guitar ends\, which always coincides with a great victory stance\, Mr. Log displays his propensity for what is only describable as ‘not giving a fuck’\, which in his case takes the form of the perfect stage presence. – beatsperminute.com \nBoobs were dipped in scotch\, one fan took an accidental swan dive into the music equipment and Bob Log III managed to play slide guitar\, drums and sing while balancing three women on his lap. – heyreverb.com \nShould you never have had the joy of seeing Bob Log III play\, let me attempt to describe it for you: picture a man in a shiny blue jumpsuit and a pilot’s helmet wired to a telephone receiver\, playing slide guitar with all the dirty\, scuzzy joy in his heart. Add to that a kick drum and foot cymbal\, the myth of a monkey paw in place of a right hand\, and a setlist that includes songs named Boob Scotch\, Bubble Strut and My Shit Is Perfect\, and you’ll begin to get the gist. It is loud and strange and electrifying\, and how ecstatic it all sounds\, that guitar glazed with a kind of sublime and honey-dipped happiness. – theguardian.com \nOne would have to be in a pretty foul mood not to be entertained by the mysterious awesomeness of Bob Log III. Sure\, his musical skills are something to behold\, his one-man-band brand of blues/Americana displaying dexterity\, creativity\, and plenty of good old rock ‘n’ roll\, but then there’s his wacky persona. At Monday’s packed Union Hall gig\, Mr. Log leapt from behind the curtain that functions as the stage door in his signature getup: a full suit with bits of gold teasing at the bottom\, and a dark-glassed racing helmet with a phone receiver wired as a mic. After a quick intro jam he shed the formality to reveal his shimmering gold full body suit\, the very rocket man the audience had been waiting for\, and burst into “Goddam Sounds Good” off the recently released My Shit Is Perfect. – theowlmag.com \nhttps://www.boblog111.com\nhttps://boblogiii.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/boblog111 \nBug Swallow\nBanjo Egg Punk\nhttps://bugswallow.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/bugswallow \nBog Bodies\ntwitchy scuzz-punk\nhttps://bogofbodies.bandcamp.com

SUMMARY:CJSW x The Establishment Film Night - Goddess Of Slide
DESCRIPTION:We’re proud to partner with Calgary’s iconic campus radio station CJSW for another year\, highlighting films and stories that matter to our community. \nJune 10\, 2026 @ 7pm \nScreening ‘Goddess of Slide: The Forgotten Story of Ellen McIlwaine’ \nHosted by Ben Goodman of ‘What’s Your Niche?’ on CJSW \nThe Establishment Brewing Company \nFree Entry \nGoddess of Slide: The Forgotten Story of Ellen McIlwaine is a feature documentary about the legendary—and largely forgotten—long-term Calgarian singer and musician who fought for her right to play the slide guitar\, a male-dominated instrument in a male-dominated world. She gained notoriety in the 1960s\, playing with Jimi Hendrix in Greenwich Village\, touring with Johnny Winter and Taj Mahal\, being dubbed “rock’s foremost female guitarist” and “a musical genre unto herself by the likes of the Washington Post. After moving to Calgary in the early 90s she still performed\, but lived a relatively quiet life driving a school bus for an all-girls charter school. The film is an intimate look at a pioneer performer whose road trip to stardom and long career deserves a rightful place in music history.
