SUMMARY:Arkells – Between Us City Takeover at Palomino
DESCRIPTION:Arkells – Between Us City Takeover at Palomino Smokehouse \nWhere: Palomino Smokehouse and Social Club\n109 7 Avenue S.W Calgary\nhttp://thepalomino.ca/\n18+ with government issued identification\nWhen: Tuesday May 19\, 2026 Doors: 7:00pm\nArtist presale / Wed\, Feb 18\, 2026\, 10:00 a.m. MST\nLive Nation presale / Thu\, Feb 19\, 2026\, 12:00 p.m. MST\nGeneral sale / Fri\, Feb 20\, 2026\, 10:00 a.m. MST\nhttps://www.ticketmaster.ca \nNO JERK POLICY ALWAYS IN EFFECT!! \nArkells\nWhether they’re rocking stadiums\, making a beeline for the discotheque\, or gathering around the campfire\, the implicit message of Arkells is always the same: everyone is welcome here. Since the beginning\, Arkells have never wavered in their mission to be the house band that soundtracks the greatest nights of your life and provides emotional support in your darkest hours. And that communal spirit is reflected in an ever-evolving sound that hits all the perennial pleasure points—fusing the anthemic power of alt-rock\, the pulpit-shaking passion of vintage soul\, the off-the-cuff intimacy of singer-songwriter music\, the urbane edge of 21st-century indie\, and the futurist aesthetics of modern R&B. \nThanks to that eclectic ethos\, Arkells have continued to evolve\, while making everyone feel right at home. As one of the most heavily rotated acts on radio\, and all-time record holders of the JUNO Award for “Group of the Year\,” Arkells have extended their reach beyond borders by infiltrating all corners of pop culture; from global sports telecasts and top-tier video games to the stages of Coachella and Bonnaroo. But the band’s longevity is ultimately a function of their commitment to never coasting on past glories and to always live completely in the moment. Even through their impressive history together\, Arkells still approach every gig as an opportunity to prove themselves to the unconverted; as they’re fond of saying\, each time they take the stage\, “we understand the assignment.” The first rule of rock ‘n’ roll is to play every show like it’s your last—but as Arkells prove night after night\, it’s just as important to hold onto the unbridled energy and enthusiasm of your first. \nhttps://www.arkellsmusic.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/arkellsmusic \nIn the spirit of reconciliation\, we acknowledge that we live\, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika\, Kainai\, Piikani)\, the Tsuut’ina First Nation\, the Iyarhe Nakoda (including Chiniki\, Bearspaw\, and Goodstoney First Nations)\, the Battle River Territory of the Métis Nation of Alberta Districts 5 & 6\, and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.\nNO JERK POLICY ALWAYS IN EFFECT!

SUMMARY:Béton Armé with Grotto\, Creeping Chill and Closetalkers
DESCRIPTION:Béton Armé with guests Grotto\, Creeping Chill and Closetalkers \nWhere: Palomino Smokehouse and Social Club\n109 7 Avenue S.W Calgary\nhttp://thepalomino.ca/\n18+ with government issued identification\nWhen: Wednesday May 20\, 2026\nDoors: 7:00pm / Action 8:00pm\nAdmission: $20.00 advance at www.showpass.com\nGeneral On-sale Date: Friday February 6\, 2026 @ 12pm MT\nNO JERK POLICY ALWAYS IN EFFECT!! \nBéton Armé (Montreal)\nMontréal has always had an active music scene\, but it seems hard for bands to break out and reach wider audiences outside Canada. However\, when a band is able to break out\, they become the archetype for their respective sounds\, creating something entirely unique from familiar riffs and structures.Take VOIVOID’s sci-fi thrash and speed metal mutation from the 80s\, INEPSY’s motör-charged wasteland punk ‘n’ roll from the early 2000’s and now…BÉTON ARMÉ’s uplifting blend of Oi!\, punk and hardcore. While it seems most people are learning about the band through their recent tours—hitting cities in Europe\, USA\, Australia and Japan—they have been active since 2018\, meticulously dialing in their sound. \nInitially influenced by the skinhead scenes of France and Italy\, their new LP “Renaissance” borrows from sounds outside the subculture\, orchestrating harmonies to unite the punks\, skins and moshers. The comparison to L’INFANTERIE SAUVAGE is undeniable (they even cover “Les poings levés mais les poings liés”!) with odd song structures switching from slow melodies to fast punchy pogo beats. The Italian influence also still remains\, tapping into bands showcased on the “QUELLI CHE URLANO ANCHORA…” compilation (BASTA\, NABAT\, ROUGH\, etc…). However on this LP\, there is a subtle influence of early American hardcore bands\, adding more stomping rhythms and upping the pace of the songs. \nRenaissance is an excellent example of how a band can evolve their sound without losing the aspects that define them: razor sharps riffs\, unexpected disco drum syncopations and\, of course\, orchestral “Ohhhhhhs”. Every song verges on an anthem that will get stuck in your head for days. \nThis record truly is a “Renaissance”\, hopefully ushering in a new era of scene unity and positivity\, making you believe that together anything is possible. SUMMARY:Gateway Events Presents: Roman Clarke
DESCRIPTION:Winnipeg multi-instrumentalist Roman Clarke hits the legendary King Eddy stage on May 30. Special guest Dempsey Bolton will open the show. \nAbout Roman Clarke: \nRoman Clarke is a multi-instrumentalist\, producer\, and artist from Winnipeg\, Manitoba. He started playing drums in touring bands at the age of 17\, and ended up performing all over the world with acts such as The Bros. Landreth\, Ariel Posen\, Fieldguide\, Boy Golden\, and many others. He has produced music for Joey Landreth\, Field Guide\, and Taylor Janzen. He played\, sang\, and recorded everything on his first album\, SCORCHER\, which is a funk/pop epic that was a modest cult success. The following album entitled GOOD PERSON was similarly self produced\, with the help of Winnipeg artist and long time friend\, Francis Rae. Roman Clarke’s third album\, I THINK IT’S ALL A DREAM\, was recorded in January 2022 completely live aside from a few background vocals\, in his home in St. Boniface\, Winnipeg. With the help of his limitlessly talented band\, I THINK IT’S ALL A DREAM stands to represent an ethic of collaboration and community that Roman Clarke strives to propagate and maintain in his creatively rich home city. Currently\, Roman is touring as drummer with The Bros. Landreth and Boy Golden.\nAbout Dempsey Bolton: \nWith Dempsey Bolton’s upbeat anthems it’s hard to tell if it’s his heart that’s breaking or if he’s the heartbreaker. Introspective lyrics layered with punchy beats define Dempsey’s self-produced indie pop hits. Coming off winning back-to-back YYC Music Awards for Pop Single of the Year\, Dempsey is looking to continue this momentum with his third album release\, “IN THE PRESENCE OF GIANTS” in April of 2026. The album is a self-produced tour-de-force\, featuring aggressive vocals and massively distorted drums\, cathartically tackling themes of isolation and heartbreak.

SUMMARY:Adelita Husni Bey: Agency
DESCRIPTION:Exhibit: Adelita Husni Bey’s Agency \nJune 4—November 8\, 2026 \nContemporary Calgary: #701 11th Street SW\, Calgary\, AB\, T2P 2C4 \n2014\, Rome\, Italy. \nThirty-five students at Manara High School took part in a workshop modelled on a group exercise\, derived from a 1970s UK critical civic studies curriculum method. Led by Italian-Libyan artist Adelita Husni Bey\, the students were divided into five constituencies – politicians\, activists\, bankers\, journalists\, and workers – and asked to engage with pressing issues in contemporary Italian politics\, including unemployment\, snap elections\, and natural disasters. \nPresented more than a decade after its completion\, Husni Bey’s Agency (2014) is a documentation of this workshop\, reflecting on the nature of power; the ways in which it manifests and operates; and how it may (or may not) be effectively used. Both disquieting and astute\, the work resonates as urgently today as it did at the moment of its making\, 12 years ago.

SUMMARY:Bob Log III with Bug Swallow\, Bog Bodies and guest selector Alley-oop
DESCRIPTION:Bob Log III with Bug Swallow\, Bog Bodies and guest selector Alley-oop \nWhere: Palomino Smokehouse and Social Club\n109 7 Avenue S.W Calgary\nhttp://thepalomino.ca/\n18+ with government issued identification\nWhen: Wednesday June 10\, 2026\nDoors: 7:00pm / Action 8:00pm\nAdmission: $20.00 advance at www.showpass.com\nNO JERK POLICY ALWAYS IN EFFECT!! \nBob Log III\nSo when you see a man in a jumpsuit and full-face helmet rigged up with a telephone receiver come barreling down the honky-tonk stairs in a lifeboat while beating away on a hollow-body guitar\, don’t get out of the way. Jump right in there with him. And as long as you live\, you’ll never forget what he taught you. – Taipei Times \nA man in a human cannonball suit soon appeared from a side door\, his head completely obscured by a tinted black helmet\, its front welded into a telephone which seemed to wirelessly amplify his voice to the audience. Bob Log III launched into a mind-blowing set\, finger-picking his beaten-up black guitar for a sound of steel string blues and heavy rock n’ roll. The sound was reminiscent of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion if it had to be categorised\, but his music would be better described as Jerry Lee Lewis crossed with a little of Tom Waits’ heavy industrial sounds. – yorkpress.co.uk \nHis guitar growls like a rabies-infested mutt\, straight from the backyard of an Alabama whorehouse. The expletives he squawks are absolutely unintelligible\, at least while the groan of his six stringed demon viciously dominates the aural realm. When the blanket of perfectly distorted guitar ends\, which always coincides with a great victory stance\, Mr. Log displays his propensity for what is only describable as ‘not giving a fuck’\, which in his case takes the form of the perfect stage presence. – beatsperminute.com \nBoobs were dipped in scotch\, one fan took an accidental swan dive into the music equipment and Bob Log III managed to play slide guitar\, drums and sing while balancing three women on his lap. – heyreverb.com \nShould you never have had the joy of seeing Bob Log III play\, let me attempt to describe it for you: picture a man in a shiny blue jumpsuit and a pilot’s helmet wired to a telephone receiver\, playing slide guitar with all the dirty\, scuzzy joy in his heart. Add to that a kick drum and foot cymbal\, the myth of a monkey paw in place of a right hand\, and a setlist that includes songs named Boob Scotch\, Bubble Strut and My Shit Is Perfect\, and you’ll begin to get the gist. It is loud and strange and electrifying\, and how ecstatic it all sounds\, that guitar glazed with a kind of sublime and honey-dipped happiness. – theguardian.com \nOne would have to be in a pretty foul mood not to be entertained by the mysterious awesomeness of Bob Log III. Sure\, his musical skills are something to behold\, his one-man-band brand of blues/Americana displaying dexterity\, creativity\, and plenty of good old rock ‘n’ roll\, but then there’s his wacky persona. At Monday’s packed Union Hall gig\, Mr. Log leapt from behind the curtain that functions as the stage door in his signature getup: a full suit with bits of gold teasing at the bottom\, and a dark-glassed racing helmet with a phone receiver wired as a mic. After a quick intro jam he shed the formality to reveal his shimmering gold full body suit\, the very rocket man the audience had been waiting for\, and burst into “Goddam Sounds Good” off the recently released My Shit Is Perfect. – theowlmag.com \nhttps://www.boblog111.com\nhttps://boblogiii.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/boblog111 \nBug Swallow\nBanjo Egg Punk\nhttps://bugswallow.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/bugswallow \nBog Bodies\ntwitchy scuzz-punk\nhttps://bogofbodies.bandcamp.com

SUMMARY:without SHAPE without FORM: JOURNEY OF THE MIND
DESCRIPTION:Exhibit: without SHAPE without FORM’s JOURNEY OF THE MIND \nJune 11—21\, 2026 \nThis exhibition is FREE and OPEN TO ALL. \nContamporary Calgary: #701 11th Street SW\, Calgary\, AB\, T2P 2C4 \nWe live in challenging times. Constantly connected through digital media\, yet often feeling isolated\, many experience pressure\, anxiety and uncertainty. The lasting impact of recent global crises\, alongside concerns about climate change and social injustice\, has intensified questions around mental wellbeing and collective responsibility. \nJOURNEY OF THE MIND\, an exhibition by without SHAPE without FORM\, draws directly on the writings of the Sikh teachers\, which offer practical guidance and clear insight into the nature of the mind – how it wanders\, what obstructs it\, and how it can return to clarity. In Sikhi\, the mind is both the source of suffering and the gateway to freedom. Through focused practice (Simran)\, selfless service (Seva) and the support of community (Sangat)\, Sikh philosophy offers a path toward inner steadiness and purposeful living. \nThe exhibition explores these principles through contemporary figurative and abstract works by artists from diverse cultural backgrounds alongside short films. It reflects on the internal struggles we face – the pull of fear\, ego and distraction – and proposes focused practice\, community and selfless service as foundations for clarity and peace. \nTo date\, JOURNEY OF THE MIND has toured five UK cities and was most recently shown at the Queens Museum in New York\, marking its first presentation in North America. \nJOURNEY OF THE MIND is presented in partnership with Contemporary Calgary.

SUMMARY:Hiromi’s Sonicwonder Presented by JazzYYC
DESCRIPTION:Headlining the 2026 JazzYYC Summer Festival. \nOver more than 20 years as a recording artist\, the jazz piano phenomenon Hiromi has shifted seamlessly from one spellbinding project to the next. In the process\, she’s earned a reputation as one of the most explosive live performers in jazz history and a global ambassador for the art form. Her many triumphs include an NPR Tiny Desk Concert that has racked up 2 million views; the opportunity to represent her native Japan with a performance at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo; 2024 winner for Best Music Score for the animated feature film Blue Giant (Award of the Japanese Academy); and a GRAMMY Award for a collaboration with fusion hero Stanley Clarke. Her artistry is — to borrow a descriptor The New Yorker favored — “dazzling.” \nIn 2023\, she released Sonicwonderland\, debuting perhaps the most expressive\, dynamic and versatile working band of her career. Called Hiromi’s Sonicwonder and featuring Hadrien Feraud on bass\, Gene Coye on drums and the trumpeter Adam O’Farrill\, the group furthered Hiromi’s distinctive musical alchemy: the spirit of classic jazz-rock fusion melded with classically rooted virtuosity\, entrancing funk\, pop flourishes and\, through O’Farrill’s trumpet\, acoustic jazz’s state of the art. \nThe album also did a remarkable job of capturing Hiromi’s mastery as a live entertainer. As The Guardian noted\, “Sonicwonderland is perhaps the closest thing to Hiromi’s onstage exuberance.”\nBut that was only the beginning. \nIn recent years\, Sonicwonder has continued to tour and work together consistently\, advancing their deep chemistry and fearless sense of interplay. The results can be heard on Hiromi’s new Concord release and 13th studio full-length album\, OUT THERE\, in which the group’s powerful rapport meets the pianist’s astonishing abilities as a composer on equal footing. As Hiromi explains\, “On Sonicwonderland\, I had the concept and the songs first\, and I was looking for the people who could play the music in the ideal way that I had in my mind. \n“Being with this group for well over a year\,” she continues\, “playing a lot of shows together and understanding each other\, I started to see more of their strength and what shines in them the most. So I started to write music with them in mind.” \nDon’t miss out—limited Pre-show VIP tickets include an exclusive artist meet-and-greet\, hors d’oeuvres\, and a pre-show cocktail starting at 6:30 p.m.

SUMMARY:Anvil Pounding the Past 2026 tour with Midnight Hellion and LOVER
DESCRIPTION:Anvil Pounding the Past 2026 ‘Metal On Metal’ ‘Hard N’ Heavy’ ‘Forged In Fire’ with Midnight Hellion and LOVER \nWhere: Palomino Smokehouse and Social Club\n109 7 Avenue S.W Calgary\nhttp://thepalomino.ca/\n18+ with government issued identification\nWhen: Wednesday July 1\, 2026\nDoors: 7:00pm / Action 8:00pm\nAdmission: $22.00 advance at www.showpass.com\nNO JERK POLICY ALWAYS IN EFFECT!! \nAnvil (Toronto)\nFormed in Toronto in 1978 by childhood friends Steve “Lips” Kudlow (vocals/guitar) and Robb Reiner (drums). They had been playing music together since their teens. Initially known as Lips\, the band added bassist Ian Dickson and rhythm guitarist Dave Allison\, and in 1980 recorded an independent album titled Hard ‘n’ Heavy\, which introduced their penchant for sexual explicitness. Zany antics notwithstanding\, Anvil’s musical contributions were very real; their fastest songs were some of the earliest speed metal laid to wax\, while jazz-trained drummer Robb Reiner set new technical standards for the genre\, including pioneering the double bass drum technique that’s become a staple of much extreme metal since. \nAnvil were one of the first North American bands to push the sound and style of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal one step further. Indebted to the likes of Judas Priest\, Iron Maiden\, and many others from across the Atlantic\, Anvil nonetheless played louder\, faster\, and heavier than their heroes\, in the process laying the groundwork for the thrash movement that took over heavy metal’s underground in the ’80s. Anvil’s second and third albums\, Metal on Metal and Forged in Fire\, made significant waves in the metal community in 1982 and 1983. – www.allmusic.com \nhttps://www.instagram.com/lipsanvil\nhttps://www.instagram.com/anvil.metal \nMidnight Hellion (Trenton\, New Jersey)\nTheir distinctive style – classic\, no-frills heavy metal serving tremendously infectious spurts of thrash riffs with a straight\, fun stage attitude – made them a top pick for world-class acts to ignite their respective crowds. Bringing their strong regional fan base to the table\, MIDNITE HELLION shared the stages with OverKill\, Dirkschneider\, Grim Reaper\, Flotsam & Jetsam\, Obituary\, Diamond Head\, Raven\, Exodus\, Yngwie Malmsteen\, and many more. \nhttps://www.midnitehellion.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/midnitehellion \nLOVER\nOld school guitar riffs\, 80s heavy metal soul \nhttps://loverrockofficial.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/loverrockofficial

SUMMARY:Canada's IRON KINGDOM Forge "Blood and Steel" w/ Second Single From New Album "Shadows and Dust" Release Tour
DESCRIPTION:Calgary Show takes place at 7 p.m. on August 22nd at Dickens Pub. More information to be released for the upcoming show later on Dickens Pub Website: https://dickensyyc.com/events/ \nABOUT THE BAND:  \nVancouver\, Canada’s traditional heavy metal torchbearers IRON KINGDOM return with the second single from their upcoming sixth studio album “Shadows and Dust\,” due out June 6\, 2026\, marking their first release under their new label partnership with Steel Shark Records (France)\, which will offer an exclusive EU edition limited to just 300 double‑CD copies. Disc 1 will contain the full “Shadows and Dust” album\, while Disc 2 will feature a “Best Of” collection highlighting tracks from Iron Kingdom’s previous five releases. In addition\, the label will introduce a third vinyl colour (100 copies) available only to EU fans.\n\nFollowing the momentum of their first single and music video “Defenders”\, the band now unveils the powerful new track “Blood and Steel”\, accompanied by an epic lyric video that dives deep into the album’s themes of endurance\, mortality\, and the human cost of ambition. \nBassist Leighton Holmes explains further: \n“The inspiration for ‘Blood and Steel’ came from two places. One draws from Steven Erikson’s Malazan Book of the Fallen\, and the other from imagining myself as a soldier in Alexander the Great’s army\, twelve years into a campaign\, thousands of miles from home\, questioning how I got there. The endless marching\, the battles\, the weight of the gear… It’s a brutal life\, and in a small way\, it parallels the blood\, sweat\, and tears of touring in a band.”\n\nMusically\, “Blood and Steel” stands apart in the IRON KINGDOM catalogue. \n“We wanted the song to feel like a march. It’s very bass‑ and drum‑driven in the verses\, with guitars layered in strategic spots. It’s a different kind of song for us\, and I think it’s going to add something special to our live sets\,” adds vocalist/guitarist Chris Osterman. \nWatch and listen to “Blood and Steel” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qb8BIzHT3_Q \nAdd to your Spotify playlist – https://open.spotify.com/track/6SDL7czZLBENHKRRbFvrQl\n\n“Shadows and Dust” is IRON KINGDOM’s most emotionally charged and thematically dark album to date\, ten tracks exploring death\, hardship\, impermanence\, and the resilience required to push through life’s most difficult trials. The cover art\, inspired by the story behind “Blood and Steel\,” depicts an army marching across a desolate landscape\, echoing the album’s central themes of struggle and perseverance.\n\n“This album plays in a dark realm. But that’s exactly what will make it accessible to people going through tough times. The music shows hope for a way out. It’s a journey\, one we can’t wait for fans to experience front to back\,” says Osterman.

SUMMARY:Neon Taste presents Unsane ‘Occupational Hazard’ Tour with PURE LOVE ETERNAL PEACE and Bat Leather
DESCRIPTION:Neon Taste presents Unsane ‘Occupational Hazard’ Tour with special guests PURE LOVE ETERNAL PEACE and Bat Leather \nWhere: Palomino Smokehouse and Social Club\n109 7 Avenue S.W Calgary\nhttp://thepalomino.ca/\n18+ with government issued identification\nWhen: Wednesday September 22\, 2026 Doors: 7:00pm\nGeneral sale / Friday March 13\, 2026\, 10:00 a.m. MST \nUnsane\nSonically\, the record is noted for its aggressively distorted guitars\, driving basslines\, and pounding drums – hallmarks of the band’s uncompromising noise rock style. In preparation for the album\, the band first recorded a six-song demo session at AmRep Studios in Minneapolis\, MN. Shortly after\, Unsane relocated to Excello Studios in Brooklyn\, NY\, where they tracked the album with engineer Billy Anderson. Frontman Chris Spencer (guitar\, vocals) recalls the period: “The writing process for Occupational\nHazard was great. I think the one real defining factor to this very creatively rewarding period of time in our career was that we knew what we were doing in terms of songwriting\, and we were able to take our time while constantly playing.” \nFollowing the recording sessions\, Occupational Hazard was mixed by legendary producer and Barkmarket guitarist David Sardy. Reflecting on the collaboration\, Spencer adds: “I’ve always liked what he did with his own band and in the studio\, and I thought that it would work well for what we were doing. Dave also had access to a really good studio in Midtown Manhattan\, so we decided to take advantage of his great production work and that space. We had been offered a three-record deal with Relapse Records and figured that would be the best thing to do\, considering we wanted to tour constantly.” \nShortly before the album’s original release\, during a European press tour\, Spencer was brutally attacked by street thugs in Vienna\, Austria\, and left for dead. He returned to touring after emergency surgery\, though the incident significantly disrupted the album’s original touring cycle. Now\, more than two decades later\, the entire album has been newly remastered by longtime Unsane collaborator and engineer Andrew Schneider. All formats will include an extra track\, “No Soul\,” originally released via Frank Kozik’s now-defunct\, infamous Man’s Ruin label as a vinyl-only limited edition. Additionally\, the band will release the original six-song demo session recorded at AmRep Studios in Minneapolis\, MN. This previously unreleased material will be included in the digital download format and will also be made available for streaming and download. \nDespite its cult status\, the band had never performed Occupational Hazard in its entirety – until a newly announced\, one-time-only special performance at the Roadburn Festival in April 2026. In addition to this exclusive appearance\, Unsane will embark on a full EU/UK headline tour\, running from March 13 to April 19\, 2026. \nhttps://unsane.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/unsaneband \nPURE LOVE ETERNAL PEACE\nExperimental Psych Drone Doom https://pureloveeternalpeace.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/pureloveeternalpeace \nBat Leather\nNoise Post Rock\nhttps://sonicchurchrecords.bandcamp.com/album/pageantry \nNeon Taste\nhttps://www.neontasterecords.ca\nhttps://neontasterecords.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/neon.taste.records
