SUMMARY:Seedy and Safe: Community Event Finale
DESCRIPTION:Eight local YYC performances you must hear\, a mural unveiling\, and screen printing in an alley this neighbourhood built. Free. RSVP in Bio. \n\n\n\n\nSix hours. Eight acts you don’t want to miss. One neighbourhood proving that big change starts with small activations. \nOn August 29\, the alley behind The Big Cheese on 17th Ave turns into a stage — and we’re handing it to eight local YYC artists you must hear\, playing a space this neighbourhood spent all summer building. \nThe short version of how we got here: back in 2021 we teamed up with The Big Cheese to clear out their alley and build a public stage from pallets and plywood people donated. It worked\, and it left us with bigger questions about who public space is really for. We’ve been chewing on those ever since. \nSo this year we came back with more time and a better plan. A month of free workshops. Two build days. A mural designed by the people who actually live here. \nNow we’re opening it. Come see what got made. \nWhat’s happening \n\nEight Acts\, live\nMural unveiling — designed and painted by this neighbourhood\nCommunity screen printing — bring your own t-shirt\nA specialty menu and drinks from The Big Cheese\, this day only\nSomewhere to sit\, eat\, and run into your neighbours\n\nBring a t-shirt. Screen printing is BYO — a plain tee\, a tote\, whatever you want the art on. We’ve got the rest.

SUMMARY:White As Snow: A Black Queer Exvangelical’s Journey
DESCRIPTION:Affirming Connections and Black Pride YYC present the Calgary premiere of Rose-Ingrid Benjamin’s autobiographical solo show! \n\n\n\n\nWhite As Snow – Calgary Premiere!\nAfter a successful run in New York City this spring\, comedian Rose-Ingrid Benjamin is bringing their powerful solo performance to the prairies. \nA Queer ex-preacher traces the arc from altar to aftermath in this lyrical blend of spoken word\, humour\, song\, and story. Told from the perspective of a Haitian\, Queer\, eldest immigrant daughter\, former worship leader and missionary\, White As Snow is a tender reckoning with faith\, family\, identity\, and the ways we come home to ourselves. \nEdmonton-born\, Ottawa-raised multi-hyphenate Rose-Ingrid Benjamin’s first play blends spoken word\, storytelling and song to weave a “deeply personal solo piece” that seeks to explore and challenge what it means to believe\, belong and walk away. \nFirst developed in Edinburgh as part of PBH Free Fringe in 2025\, White As Snow premiered at the NYC Fringe in April 2026 and is making its way across Canada in the summer and fall of 2026. \nThe performance is in English\, with French and Kreyòl featured in memories and songs.

SUMMARY:Peaches: No Lube So Rude Tour
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:00 PM \nShow 8:00 PM \nAll Ages \nwith Wheelchair Sports Camp \nPeaches has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 per ticket goes to supporting organizations working for equity\, access\, and dignity for all. www.plus1.org \n  \nAn iconic feminist musician\, producer\, director\, and performance artist\, Peaches first catapulted to stardom with her “surreally funny [and] nasty” (Rolling Stone) 2000 debut\, The Teaches of Peaches\, which introduced the world to her sexually transgressive\, fiercely assertive\, and utterly captivating persona. Since then\, Peaches has released four more trailblazing albums\, won the prestigious Polaris Heritage Prize\, collaborated with everyone from Iggy Pop and Daft Punk to Christina Aguilera and Yoko Ono\, landed songs in cultural watermarks like Lost in Translation and The Handmaid’s Tale\, and seen her work studied at universities around the world. \n  \nIn addition to her musical output\, Peaches has directed over 20 videos\, co-curated a photo book of her life\, created a host of immersive installations and performative works\, and penned the electro-rock opera Peaches Does Herself\, which was adapted into a film shown at over 70 festivals. The subject of two acclaimed documentaries\, Peaches has also played the title role in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo and Brecht’s The Seven Deadly Sins and continues to perform her widely lauded one-woman show\, Peaches Christ Superstar. \n  \nPeaches’ newest album\, No Lube So Rude\, recorded with co-producer The Squirt Deluxe\, is a brash\, unapologetic exploration of identity\, sexuality\, age\, and bodily autonomy\, a provocative work of emotional and sonic alchemy that balances the poetic and the profane in equal measure as it transforms all the friction and frustration of modern life into joy and transcendence.
