Aladean Kheroufi Ep 6’s guest is an Alberta born musician who has drawn inspiration from across the globe, and across the continent. I’m talking about none other than Aladean Kheroufi AKA Cheb Khero. In this episode we talk about his songwriting process, his production methods, and his history with the Legendary Record Label from Brooklyn New York, Daptone Records. So many things make sense now, because this new release - it just came out June 7th on We Are Busy Bodies - called “Studies in a Dying Love” is really incredible. The sound is so smooth, so rich, so soulful. I really like this kind of music but I haven’t heard anything like this come out of Alberta, so I’m incredibly happy to be able to showcase this project. This episode plays the whole album, as well as a couple of older tracks (studio recordings that were released previously but not on the album) and a couple of live performances that were published online (just to give a taste of the ‘one man band’ aspect). Sprinkled throughout is a phone interview where I get some background info and a glimpse into the soul behind the soul. Catch Aladean live in Calgary at Sled Island next week!!!
