Behind The Boards – Episode July 5, 2024

YEEHAW It’s about that time of the year when we dust off the ol’ Cowboy hat and rip around the city like we’re back in the wild west. And of course, along with that is a bunch of country music to celebrate! I’ve got two episodes that will air during the Calgary Stampede, so I’m going to break it down into two parts. Part one, today’s episode is going to be all “vintage” country music. Like this song, Hillbilly Express is from 1951! We’re going to go chronological and take a trip through a few decades of (MOSTLY) Outlaw style country music, because that’s more what I like. We’re going to visit a few classic and some big name artists, but there will be some lesser known tracks sprinkled throughout, including a few songs that were new to me but I discovered when I was preparing the show. A bit of Johnny Cash, some Willie Nelson, we’ve got some Dolly as well, some Willie Dunn - we’re zig zagging all over the place! Everything is from the 50's, 60’s, and 70’s for the most part.. Only a couple songs from the 80’s & 90’s, but they fit the vibe. Next week I’ll be keeping it country but I’ll figure we’ll be starting to get fed up with country a bit so I’ll have some fun with it and get into the more fun in some cases, dark in others, and experimental side of country music.
