On this episode of Behind the Boards, we continue the Spotlight of Vancouver Island’s own Rob the Viking. As discussed on the last regular episode of the show, Rob’s production spans beyond his success with the Legendary Hip Hop group, Swollen Members, into all sorts of other styles and genres. For that reason, it should come as no surprise that when I asked Rob to create a playlist of tracks that influenced him musically, that list spans decades and transcends musical boundaries. I had to make some tough choices because he provided more than 3 hours of tracks! So I decided to drop almost all the hip hop from the list… who knows? Maybe we’ll do a hip hop focused show in the future. But I thought it would be interesting to shine the light on the influences that came from outside of the hip hop world, for the most part. I did a live mix for this episode… So, sit back, relax, and enjoy some of the sounds that shaped the tastes of one of the greatest producers in my books!
