John Vaillant's 'Fire Weather'

In 2023, the Calgary Climate Hub was honoured to welcome award-winning and bestselling author John Vaillant for his new book 'Fire Weather: the Making of a Beast'. Following the shock of the Fort McMurray fire in 2016, the book explores the complex relationship between fire and humankind, particularly through the prism of climate change and the oil and gas industry. The interview took place a few weeks after a moratorium on renewable energy in Alberta, and as Los Angeles burns, the book is still as grimly topical as ever.
