In anticipation of Halloween, the musical spirits come out to
play as the Calgary Jazz Orchestra showcases The Music of Michael Jackson & Premiere of The Spectre
Suite, an original composition by orchestra director Johnny Summers.
“Michael Jackson’s music has drawn our attention worldwide as a people for over fifty years,” says
Summers, who invites the audience to join him and the orchestra as they explore some of Jackson’s hits
through original arrangements for the CJO.
Jackson’s music, in particular the spooky “Thriller” is a segue to the second half of the show, The Spectre
Suite. “Growing up, loving the Ghostbusters movie, is really where the idea for The Spectre Suite came
from,” notes Summers. “I was inspired by playing off of that spooky, ethereal, cinematic experience and
creating a work of music that evokes the same feelings of anticipation, thrill and excitement.”
Orange Frog Productions designs lighting for CJO shows that evokes a dramatic mood on theme with the
evening’s performance. In The Spectre Suite, the company’s work takes centre stage, bringing the
delightfully haunting atmosphere to life with ghostly apparitions and spooky characters.
Johnny Summers and the musicians of the CJO will take the audience on a journey of spine-tingling
melodies inspired by cinematic classics.
Whether you are drawn to tales of ghosts and legends or simply love a haunting night of memorable live
music, prepare for a spellbinding concert that will leave you enchanted long after the final note has
faded.
