Hi Friend, Over the years, CJSW has been an enthusiastic partner with the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program. This employment granting program is intended to afford summer employment opportunities for Canadian citizens between the ages of 18 and 30 years old. In my own story, I had the great fortune of being a Canada Summer Jobs student hire for CJSW in 2003. That summer, I learned so much while having such a fun time making friends and making community radio. Fast-forward 21 years to 2024 and CJSW is again working with the Government of Canada to offer fantastic temporary employment opportunities to young people in our community. This year, our team of full-time staff and volunteers have been working with a talented and community-minded cadre of hires this summer. • Maya Calvez – Videographer • Audrey Badzgon – Audio/Video Producer • Thea Wolsey – Audio/Video Producer • Adrian Alcantara – Community Outreach Coordinator • Kole Halvorson – Festivals & Outreach Coordinator • Carter Henry – Festivals & Outreach Coordinator • Emily Roadhouse – Multimedia Librarian In addition to CJSW partnering with the Canada Summer Jobs program, CJSW has works with Mount Royal University to have students from their Broadcast Media Studies and Journalism programs complete their internships. This year, our station has had the pleasure of hosting Catalina Berguno and Emil Duguay as interns this summer. Summer staff and interns support all aspects of CJSW operations during this very busy season. Everything from live performance capture and editing, media library upkeep, news reporting, community relations and CJSW presence at festivals are all helped immeasurably by our team of summer staff and interns. These special individuals are doing incredible things and have been a delight to work with. Next time you hear a live band perform on CJSW this summer, watch one of those performances on YouTube , use your Friends Card or see the CJSW tent at your favourite festival, know that our exceptional group of summer staff and interns had a big hand in making that happen. Until next month! Adam Kamis |
