Mexican-born, Calgary-based vocalist Gisela Romero leads a seven-piece ensemble in a vibrant exploration of traditional Mexican and Latin American music. Rooted in mariachi and folk traditions, this project brings together global influences—including jazz, flamenco, salsa, and huapango—through fresh, expressive arrangements shaped by a diverse group of musicians. 

Centered on her project Mexicana, Romero’s work is a deeply personal reflection on heritage, migration, and identity. A YYC Music Award and Western Canadian Music Award nominee, she brings a strong sense of lyricism and cultural connection to performances sung primarily in Spanish, balancing tradition with reinterpretation. Featuring JUNO-nominated pianist Esteban Herrera alongside a dynamic ensemble, this performance offers a rich and nuanced tribute to both Mexico and Canada.
