Whats going on in the CJSW Music Department
We are a team of volunteers who work to support local music and musicians in Calgary and beyond. We run a monthly Top 30 chart, host live sessions with local and touring artists, write album reviews, and more. If you’re interested in getting involved, submit your music or contact us for more info!

Population II – Gimmicks (Bonsound)

“Like last year’s Maintenant Jamais, Population II’s latest EP is a pretty perfect fusion of prog and psychedelia. Where it differs is in leaning even further away from guitars and into synth-heavy atmospherics. Mostly that means it’s more melodic and mellower than their previous releases, but there are at least a couple welcome moments where they let the distortion rip. Nice to hear them trying out new textures and techniques—it’s exactly what EPs are for, and proof that Pop II remain one to watch.” – Peter H
